For night or early arrivals (00:00 – 4:00), we start bird-watching in the morning. Daytime arrivals are recommended to rest overnight at the lodge since early morning is optimal for birding.
For a memorable, relaxed experience, Wild Heart African Safaris recommends a 3-day itinerary to accommodate arrival, bird-watching, and departure, ensuring a smooth and fulfilling trip.
Mabamba Wetlands
Mabamba Bay, a renowned birding destination on the edge of Lake Victoria, is famed for the shoebill stork—a striking bird with blue-gray feathers, long legs, and a broad wingspan. Standing 110–140 cm tall, this rare species is found among the papyrus and lungfish in Africa’s floodplains, and Mabamba Wetlands is an ideal spot to observe them.
Located just an hour’s drive from Entebbe-Kampala or a 45–50-minute boat ride, Mabamba Wetlands is best visited in the early morning before the sun is high and bird activity slows. Arriving early ensures a more peaceful experience and avoids traffic.
For a thrilling alternative, opt for a speedboat ride from Entebbe’s Nakiwogo Port. Guided by experienced captains and beach management teams, you’ll have a safe, adventurous journey with life jackets provided.
